As good citizens of the TDD world, we are used to writing tests for everything we build. We also build monitoring and alerting tools. But is monitoring different to testing? Can we leverage tests as monitoring tools?
In this session we will discuss the limitations of standard infrastructure and low level application monitoring. We will then look at how tests can be leveraged as monitors, the gotchas and how to answer the golden question when things go wrong – “what is the precise impact on our customers?”
Required audience experience:
Interest in observability and testing of applications and microservices
Objective of the talk:
Explore the benefits and ways of using tests as a monitoring tool. Supplement infrastructure and low level application monitoring with monitoring of business capabilities that our business stakeholders can understand.
